Things to See-Part 2

4. Public Beach and Jumeira Beach Park

Public Beach

Public Beach

For sunshine and beach fans, these are the good places to spend half a day. As the name implies, public beach is opened for public. The admission charge for Jumeira Beach park is 5 Dhs in 1997.

In terms of cleanliness, public beach has a lot of cigarette butts on the sand. Both of the beaches have life guards. I noticed that public beach seems to attract more crowds.

5. Jumeira Mosque

Jumeira Mosque is just opposite public beach. It's a popular picture used in Dubai tourism brochures. However, non-Muslims are not allowed to enter mosques.

6. City Centre

City Centre

City Centre

City Centre is the largest shopping mall in UAE. . If you want to visit only one shopping mall in UAE, this is the one. The ground level is a very big car park. Shops are located on the 2nd storey onwards. I find the items there a bit expensive.

I'll always remember a scene where I saw a group of staff from "Warner Bros shop" dancing in steps. It's so joyous. There's a hyper-market "Continent" in City Centre.

7. Camel racing

Camel racing is a popular sport in UAE and is even broadcast on TV.

I've only been to the Dubai Camel racing track. It takes place on Thursday and Friday and usually during winter.

The camels can run faster than you think.

Camel racing practice

The camel jockeys at my time of visit are actually young kids of perhaps 7 years old. They're daring but I've heard child jockey has been prohibited.

Dubai Camel Racing Track is located outside Dubai city. Taxi may cost about 30Dhs to get there from city. You've have to go there about 8:00am. The admission is free and even the refreshment are on the Sheikh's treat.
